A political buzz is sweeping across Uttarakhand today, as student union elections are being held in universities and colleges throughout the state. The results, expected this evening, will be a key indicator of the influence held by the two major student organisations: the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), affiliated with the ruling BJP, and the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the opposition Congress party.

Polling is scheduled from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, with the counting of votes and declaration of results to begin after 5:00 pm. More than 88,000 students are eligible to cast their votes in today's elections.

The elections are taking place across the campuses of three state universitiesSridev Suman University, Kumaun University, and Soban Singh Jeena University—as well as the Chauras, Tehri, and Pauri campuses of HNB Garhwal Central University.

Polling is also underway in their affiliated government and government-aided private colleges. Prominent among these are DAV, DBS, MKP and Shri Guru Ram Rai PG College in Dehradun, and MPG College in Mussoorie.
