10 Facts About Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa: One does not have to be a painter or an art lover to know about one of the most famous paintings in the world- the Mona Lisa. The painting, painted by Leonardo Da Vinci, has become one of the most loved paintings of all and there are several obvious reasons behind it. However, sadly enough, the world's most famous painting recently fell victim to some protesters who were protesting for the French farmers. According to the reports, two climate activists threw pumpkin soup on the painting. Riposte Alimentaire, or Food Counterattack if translated in English, is the group that took responsibility for the hideous act. The painting was reportedly not damaged.

France is facing a strong Farmers Protest in the nation, leading to farmers creating chaos in the country. They are reportedly protesting to get better ‘work conditions’.

The troublesome soup incident, soon after it unfolded, brought the painting back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. So keeping that in mind, we thought to take a look at some of the facts about the painting with a history that is far too rich. Maybe that will hold some people back from attempting to make art a part of their protest.

We found out about some of the facts about the painting. The list was compiled by ‘jerrysartarama’.

Here are 10 facts about the famous Mona Lisa painting painted by Leonardo Da Vinci:

Bulletproof Glass

With the recent soup incident in mind, it's only fair to mention the most obvious yet unpopular fact about the famous painting- the glass protecting the art piece is bulletproof. It makes sense since several attempts were made to ruin the painting as part of protests.

Unsigned Painting

Believe it or not, but Leonardo Da Vinci never signed his most famous painting. There is also no date mentioned on the canvas. Hence, all the doubts about its origin date.

Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa was all about the beautiful woman who enchanted the world with her beauty. But who was she? It is believed that the woman in the painting was Lisa Gherandini Giocondo. She is believed to be 25 at the time of the painting.

The Owner

Another fact that many believed about the painting was that it was ordered by Giocondo’s husband, Francesco del Giocondo. However, surprisingly enough, he never received the artwork.

Priceless

The painting is pretty much priceless. No surprise here it seems. The painting has also never been ‘insured’ for the same reason; no price tag.

The Million Views

The next fact should not come as a surprise, considering the fact that it is one of the most famous paintings in the world- it is believed to have been viewed by about 6 million people so far.

Missing Eyebrows

Currently, the world’s most famous painting is missing a pair of eyebrows. Yes, if you notice, you will find it hard enough to spot the woman’s eyebrows. Not that the eyebrows were not painted, but they have faded away with time.

Bulletproof Gift

Coming back to the bulletproof glass for the next fact; it was gifted by Japan. The thoughtful gift was given after the painting attracted 2 million people in 1974, when the painting was displayed at the Tokyo National Museum.

Wrong Name

The original name of the painting was believed to be Mia Donna Lisa. But it later shrunk to Monna Lisa. However, thanks to a minor spelling error, the painting is now famous by the name Mona Lisa.
