Viral Reddit Post: A 15-year-old girl named Mae had a really bad experience after babysitting for a family she had worked with before. Even after taking care of two kids for 7 hours, she wasn’t paid the $150 she was promised, all because of what she wore. Mae shared her story on Reddit, and it quickly grabbed people’s attention. She said she wore a tank top, sweatpants, and a sweatshirt. Later, when the kids asked her to play outside, she took off the sweatshirt. The kids’ mom, Marianne, didn’t like her outfit and said it didn’t match their religious values. " We do not feel comfortable paying you the full amount after you wore such inappropriate clothing to our house. We cannot pay you more than 50$ after you wore that outfit."
When Mae asked for her payment, Marianne refused. Mae even said she was okay with half the amount, saying, “$50 honestly does not feel like enough money for 2 kids and 7 hours.” Still, she got no reply. People online are now talking about the importance of fair treatment, respecting teenagers, and not mixing personal beliefs with professionalism.

The post, shared a while ago, received many comments from Reddit users. "I second that you should tell your parent or a trusted adult. The family needs to pay you the full amount. What you wore was not inappropriate in the least, and - even if it was - they still need to pay you what they owe. If they were uncomfortable with your clothing, they could have had a conversation with you / sent you home before they went out," a user wrote. "Exactly. You can't just not pay someone for the time they worked. If they were uncomfortable with her outfit, they could have said they didn't want her to babysit, or they could not have asked her back in the future. (But they won't bc then who could they exploit for their childcare)" A second user added.
"Yep, it's totally exploitative, and the parents should be ashamed trying to shortchange a literal child. They know exactly what they're doing. They're just cheapskates giggling at getting free labour while trying to make OP feel like she's the one in the wrong. 'Religious,' uh-huh," added a third user. "As a parent, just tell them they owe you the full amount and you're not going to babysit for them until they pay you. When they ask you again, maybe make them pay up front."You vet my outfit and pay in advance," a fourth user added.
