LinkedIn Viral Post: Life in India has changed a lot over the years, especially for the middle class. A LinkedIn post by Delhi-based professional Himanshu Kalra is now going viral for showing just how different things were in 1970 compared to today. And it’s got the internet thinking deeply: Has our growth come at the cost of peace of mind? In his powerful post, Himanshu paints a clear and honest picture of the past and the present.

Back in 1970, life followed a simple path. You finished college, got a degree, learned one skill, found a good job, earned a stable salary, bought a house, got married, and raised three children. There was a sense of security and calm. As Himanshu puts it, "You're set for life." But in 2025, things are very different. Today’s middle-class youth face a long and stressful journey. First, they must fight for a seat in college, and even after that, they begin adulthood with student loans. A degree alone isn’t enough anymore. Skills need constant updating, and most become outdated in just a few years.

Jobs are harder to find, and promotions are slower. Inflation keeps rising while salaries don’t match up. Even if people get married and have children, both partners often have to work full-time just to cover basic expenses. And when it comes to mental health? "Figure it out yourself." Himanshu ends his post with a thought-provoking line: "But sure, the economy’s 'booming'."

The viral post received many comments from LinkedIn users. Many are sharing their own struggles, while others are reflecting on how the idea of success and stability has changed for the middle class. One user wrote, "And still boomers will say, oh you have it so much easier than us. We used to do X after so much difficulty. Empathy is only when both sides can understand each other's struggles." "The biggest shift? In 1970, you learned one skill for life. In 2025, you're constantly learning just to stay relevant. "Progress" really redefined what security looks like," a second user added.

"This hits hard. From stability in the 70s to constant hustle in 2025 — it’s clear the middle class is carrying a heavy burden. It’s time we rethink what real progress looks like," a third user wrote. "I can feel this post, we definitely have more opportunities and channels to grow, but at the same time, a lot of competition makes everything a little bit more difficult," added a fourth user.
