Australian Woman Viral Video: When Australian traveler Bec McColl embarked on a solo journey to India, she had no idea the trip would turn out to be one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. Sharing her adventure in a now-viral Instagram video, she revealed three surprising things that shattered her preconceptions about the country.
The first, and perhaps most unexpected, was how safe she felt. “I was told India was dangerous for female travellers, but when I actually got there, I felt safe the entire time,” she admitted. While she did experience a brief moment of unease when staying out late at night, her overall experience was far from the warnings she had heard before arriving.
Her journey was filled with rickshaw rides through vibrant streets, heartfelt interactions with locals, and breathtaking sights—but one thing she had been particularly worried about was the food. “I was so scared of food poisoning, but guess what? It never happened. The food was delicious, especially the vegetarian dishes. And it wasn't as spicy as I was told, it was so good that by the end, I was actually craving the heat,” she shared. The fear of falling sick was replaced with a newfound love for the rich flavours of Indian cuisine.

However, what truly left her in awe was India's deep-rooted history. “I didn't realise how much history India has. There are ancient cities, UNESCO sites, and incredible architecture dating back to the 13th century. The culture and heritage are mind-blowing,” she said, reflecting on the grand palaces, centuries-old temples, and historical wonders she explored.
Summing up her experience, McColl urged others not to believe everything they hear about India. “It's not what the rumours say. It's pretty safe, flavourful, and full of history. What more could you ask for?” Her words painted a picture of a country far different from the misconceptions, leaving many inspired to see India for themselves.
The video, shared just four days ago, has already gained significant attention, racking up 172k views. Captioned, "Travelling India was one of the best things I've ever done. I can't wait to go back to India," the post sparked a wave of reactions from social media users.
Many viewers took to the comment section to share their thoughts. One user pointed out common misconceptions, writing, "Most clips of India you see on the internet are from Pakistan or Bangladesh. India is still not fully developed, but it's 100 times better than what foreigners see online." Another commenter reflected on how social media algorithms work, saying, "This video will not blow up and get millions of likes and views because it's a positive reel about India. If it was negative, the algorithm would work its magic on promoting hate."
Some encouraged McColl to explore more of the country, with one user suggesting, "Waiting for you to reach Southern India (especially Kerala and Tamil Nadu). You will find the real beauty of India here." Praising the nation's warmth and hospitality, another comment read, "Awesome. This is our India, and Indians are the best you can see anywhere in the world. Enjoy your trip."
