Amid countless language debates and language imposition incidents that came forward from Karnataka’s Bengaluru in the last few months, it seems like this auto driver came up with a unique and creative way to solve the same for everyone. With the aim to help non-Kannada speakers learn a few phrases of Kannada, the driver ended up hanging a card at the back of his auto’s driver seat. The card had a few questions and sentences in Kannada that passengers might want to use, along with their English translations. The card that had ‘Learn Kannada With Auto Kannadiga’ written in bold at the top, was perceived as a polite way to help non-Kannada speakers by some on social media.
The Bengaluru post, after getting viral, mostly received mixed reactions. Some people called the concept polite and innovative, while the rest dubbed it another way of imposing the Kannada language. A few also commented on the inclusion of ‘Sir’ in every sentence.
The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘vatsalyatandon’. The post was captioned, “Very handy.” The post was shared yesterday and pulled more than 2 million views from people.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Where's the option for No sir, I won't pay you 600 for 2 kilometres,” a user said. “This is a genius idea!” added a second person. “A creative solution for a very stupid debate that is seemingly only increasing. Good to know that some people want to solve it in a polite and innovative manner,” added a third person.
“Sir is a Kannada word adapted by Britishers when they were learning Kannada,” added a fourth person. “Good way to know which auto ride to avoid,” added another user. “Good way to politely ask people to learn a new language. Many will welcome this and will have a curious approach towards it. Don't force,” added another.
