Bengaluru is often in headlines for its traffic jams. But tenants in the city know there’s another common struggle which is dealing with strict or uncooperative landlords. Delays in returning deposits, sudden rent hikes, and lack of basic support are everyday complaints. However, one tenant’s experience has stood out and surprised the internet.

In a now-viral Reddit post, a North Indian man shared how his landlord in Bengaluru gave him a silver kada (a traditional bracelet) as a farewell gift when he moved out after nearly two years of staying in the rented home. Calling it a personal ‘flex’, the man fondly recalled how his landlord had treated him like family throughout his stay. “My flex – I got a landlord in Bangalore who gifted me a silver kada. In a city where landlords don’t even return the deposit, my landlord gave me a farewell gift and treated me like his son throughout my stay of two years! He would give his extra scooty to me as well whenever I needed it apart from my things,” the Reddit user wrote.

Meanwhile, the post gained over 2,000 views and dozens of reactions, with people expressing shock and admiration. One user joked, “You stumbled upon a landlord whose chances of spawning are 1 in 8 billion.” Another said, “Rarest of the rarest of the rarest of the rare.” Some people advised the Redditor to stay in touch with the landlord, as people like him are very rare in today’s world. One person wrote, “Make sure you return the favour in some way. It’s rare to have people this good and you should make sure that you express that in your actions with him.”

On the other hand, a clever commenter added, “He isn’t just a ‘Land Lord’… He is the ‘LORD OF THE RINGS’ (silver though).” Others joined in with their own experiences. “Mine wants to increase the rent by 15% even though the contract says 5%,” said one frustrated user. The post has struck a chord with many.
