Canadian Creator Viral Video: Why does India always need a comparison to feel special? That simple question is at the heart of a viral video by a Canadian content creator that has struck a chord with thousands online. Caleb Friesen recently shared a video on X where he spoke about a habit many Indians don’t even realise they follow: constantly comparing Indian cities and landmarks to foreign places. His message was clear and direct: India doesn’t need labels borrowed from the West to prove its worth.

In the viral video, Caleb can be heard saying, "This isn’t Japan, it’s Bengaluru. This isn’t Scotland, it’s Coorg. This isn’t France, it’s Pondicherry." As the video continues, he lists more examples people often use proudly, saying, "This isn’t Switzerland, it’s Gulmarg. This isn’t the Grand Canyon, it’s Gandikota. This isn’t Niagara Falls, it’s Chitrakote. This isn’t the Netherlands, it’s Srinagar."

Caleb explains that while these comparisons usually come from admiration, they quietly send the wrong message. Instead of celebrating India for what it is, such labels make Indian places look like copies of foreign destinations, not unique places with their own identity.

He then moves beyond travel and talks about films and technology. Referring to Bollywood, Tollywood, Sandalwood and other 'woods,' Caleb points out how India keeps borrowing naming styles from Hollywood. He contrasts this with South Korea, saying its film industry never needed Western labels to earn global respect.

Caleb also questions why Bengaluru is called the "Silicon Valley of India." He calls the title confusing and unnecessary, noting that Bengaluru sits on the Deccan Plateau and has a rich history of its own. Instead of borrowing a foreign identity, he believes the city could have proudly embraced a name rooted in its own culture and geography.

The video ends with a powerful line that many users said stayed with them long after watching: "India is not the X of Y. India just is. Period." Caleb urges people to stop constant comparisons and see India for what it truly is, "spectacular" and "one of a kind."
