Delhi Metro Viral Post: What started as a simple act of kindness turned into a disturbing metro ride for a woman in Delhi. Sharing her experience on Reddit, the user ‘taerin_yapper’ narrated how helping a lost stranger ended up making her feel unsafe and anxious during her daily commute. The woman said she was changing metro lines when a man, “seemed to be in his 30s,” appeared confused and asked for directions. She wrote, “We had an eye contact, so he asked me for the directions to the platform, which will go to ***, I calmly guided him, no hints dropped, I was only helping.” But what followed left her shaken.

After thanking her with, “Ma'am aap bade acche hain thanks,” the man continued, “Are you also going there?” She replied with a casual yes and walked ahead to catch her train. But then she noticed something strange, he was following her. When they reached the platform, she wrote, “There was already a guy sitting beside him, so there was no possible place to sit on the platform, and he came up to me and said, Can I sit here?” She looked around, confused, thinking, “Does he want to sit on my lap now?” Feeling uncomfortable, she walked away, but the man followed again and asked, “Do you have water with you?” She declined.

The situation made her increasingly nervous. “Still, this guy just won't leave me alone. I started to feel restless, even when there were so many people around, I felt unsafe.” She finally pretended to be on a call to get rid of him. Thankfully, that worked, and he left. To make sure she was safe, she moved to the women’s coach. “I was so glad I didn't inform him where I was going (I just agreed before cause I didn't want to explain where I was going, I was tired),” she wrote.

Even though nothing major happened, the experience deeply affected her. “It wasn't even that major, but I felt so alone and unsafe at that moment. I normally travel alone and don't fear and reply back or even give warnings, but this time my body just stopped. I am still feeling restless because of it.”

The post quickly went viral, with people expressing shock and disappointment. Many also shared similar stories and questioned the state of women’s safety in public transport. One user wrote, "As a boy, I can confirm that women are not safe in the Delhi metro. I always noticed some creeps and 40+ uncles staring at girls and women, it's so damn uncomfortable." The second user shared his experience, stating, "I was with my mom in the metro, some guy in his 50s kept staring at her, so I got up, blocked his view with my body, and started staring back at him. When he noticed me, he immediately withdrew his eyes and got up at the next station."

"A similar thing happened with me as well. This guy kept asking me about what course am i pursuing, konse college mein hu again and again, if I'm from Delhi, where do I stay in a pg or a flat, if we could be friends. I tried to dodge his questions," added a third user. "I've mistakenly been in the non-ladies compartment once. It was hellllll. 8-10 fking men leering at you throughout the journey. It's so so so uncomfortable. People in this country have not zero but a negative civic sense," added another user.
