Viral Reddit Story: Imagine skipping the office for three months straight and no one even noticing. Strange right? But that’s exactly what happened with one employee whose story on Reddit has now gone viral. The worker revealed how they quietly continued working from home even after their company made it mandatory to come to the office twice a week.
In their post, the employee shared that they initially followed the rule and went to the office for the first few weeks. But soon, they found themselves sitting in a nearly empty workspace, attending Zoom calls with teammates who were still at home. “Realized I was basically commuting to use Slack,” they wrote, explaining how pointless it all felt.
Then came the turning point, one morning, their train got delayed, and they decided to skip the office that day. “Then one morning the train was late, and I just… didn’t go. I figured I’d make it up later. But then I didn’t. I kept working from home, hitting deadlines, responding to messages - and no one said a thing,” the user confessed.

“Three months later, I'm still fully remote. My manager even complimented me on 'being really engaged lately, '” the post read. Wrapping up the story, the employee joked, “Apparently, 'presence' just means replying fast enough on Teams.”

The post struck a chord with thousands online, earning over 33k upvotes. Many users shared similar experiences, laughing at how remote work has completely changed what showing up means in today’s world.
"I had the same experience some years ago. Then I changed manager, who started to micromanage, and was sitting next to me… changed job," a user wrote. "They’ll catch you eventually. Probably around the time they do their annual review, or if you are in contention for a raise/promotion," a second user wrote. "I had a coworker who just didn't come in after the return to office. That was a few years ago, and he still had a pile of holiday cards from the managers stacking up on his desk when I left this year," wrote a third user.
"I keep having dreams that I am supposed to go to the office but I have been on illicit remote for years and can't remember where in the city the office is located, and then my keycard doesn't work, or I can't find the right elevator bank ... on and on, it's the new version of "exam day and I just got my schedule" dream," added another user.
