The debate around hustle culture has sparked once again, this time after a young software engineer from Himachal Pradesh shared his bold take on working extra-long hours. His thoughts, posted on X, quickly divided the internet. Pranav Mehta, who works at a US-based tech firm Mercor, replied to a post by the company’s CEO, Brendan. The CEO had proudly revealed that Mercor had grown from $1 to $500 million in revenue run rate in just 17 months, calling it “the fastest-growing company of all time.”

Reacting to this, Pranav openly admitted, “The 72-hour work week might sound daunting at first (occasionally stretches to 100). But the growth, the learning curve, the pace – is truly unmatched.” He further added, “A comfy 40-hour week won’t offer the same upside. Not the same energy, not the same rewards. Above all, there’s a rare privilege in being able to say: I’m helping build the fastest growing company of all time.”

His words instantly stirred strong reactions online. Some slammed the idea, questioning if such long hours were even sustainable.

"Why do you guys try to flaunt toxic work culture as hustle culture?” wrote a third user. "I don't have any problem working for long hours as long as the company is paying well. Infosys pays peanuts, and their ceo tells workers this. It's better that they pay a good amount," added another user. "The working environment must be lit and hyped up all the time," added another user.
