Viral Video: Roads in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri turned into a zoo after a giant Crocodile was reportedly seen casually strolling in the busy streets of Chiplun. What was further intriguing and concerning at the same time, was that the deadly reptile was on a ‘city tour’ during what appeared to be the nighttime, amid the road full of commuters. However, the animal looked hardly bothered. The video was recorded by one of the commuters, which went viral on social media. As per netizens and their speculations, it was concluded that the reptile must have come from the River Shiva, which was nearby. The date of the incident could not be confirmed.
The Meteorological Department reportedly has predicted rainfall in Ratnagiri till July 02. The authorities, on the other hand, have asked people to stay alert.
The video was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘ParveenKaswan’. The post was captioned, “Why did the crocodile cross the road? A video from Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, where a crocodile is on a city tour. Hope everything went safely.”

The video went viral almost immediately. Most people called Maharashtra the ‘US’ of India, and Ratnagiri its ‘Florida’, while the rest cracked jokes on the same. Many also credited the area’s greenery for such an ‘odd encounter’ on the road.
Taking to the internet, people shared their take. “Maharashtra is the US of India and Chiplun is Florida,” a user said. “We heard the auto driver show him/her the entire way,” added a second person. “Requesting you to check where near Ratnagiri. It must be nearby Chiplun,” added a third user.
“You can see many crocodiles if you travel along the Konkan region. Other reptiles and snakes abound in the region too because of the flora. The people and animals there have learned to live peacefully with each other,” wrote the next. “Well, it's a normal event in Vadodara ( Baroda ) during heavy rain,” commented another.
