Despite countless feminists fighting for equal rights and the value of women, the outcome is not exactly ideal, especially when it comes to the professional world. The glass ceiling is still rather high in almost all the working fields, and the ‘ladder’ to reach and break that ceiling is surely being smashed on a constant basis by many. Amid all this, it has become common for organisations to try and encourage their women employees by any means possible, which surely is something that should be supported. However, more than often, many companies rather fail to send the correct message, resulting in instead creating a ‘disaster’. Seemingly something similar happened with IndiGo Airline after its ad on ‘patriarchy’ went viral.
In the ad, a female flight attendant was seen standing in the aisle and giving flight instructions. And at the bottom of the page, it read, “Escaping Patriarchy At 800 kmph.” Needless to say, the ad hardly made any sense to most people. A picture of the same was shared on social media, which brought light to the whole thing.
The post was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘adadithya’. The post was captioned, “This copy... Give that writer a raise @IndiGo6E.” The post was shared yesterday and pulled 542K views from people.

Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “Feels like a force-fit headline. Would have hit the nail if a female pilot was in the frame too!” a user said. “But no offence this job post is mostly reserved for the girls who are forced to look pretty in the job profile and most of the hiring managers who made such rules are men. So how does this escaping patriarchy??” added a second person.
“What is patriarchy in this picture? Is it like women were not allowed to be a stewardess in the past? Or, is it like it was a male-only profession and now Indigo has broken it?” added a third person. “Nothing screams escaping patriarchy louder than when- You clean toilets, serve food, and handle tantrums for little pay while maintaining a specific appearance for strangers over family. Oh wait... psyop efficacy to manipulate women never ceases to amaze,” added another.
