Coldplay Vs Mahakumbh: In the past three months, two significant events have captured the spotlight in India: the Maha Kumbh Mela held in Prayagraj and the Coldplay concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. A recent analysis by India In Pixels has highlighted a fascinating trend, showing how different states across the country have searched more for one event over the other, revealing regional preferences through Google search data. Both events have garnered significant attention, flooding news outlets and social media, and drawing huge crowds.
The map shared on social media highlighted a clear division between the states. Blue areas showed states that searched more for Coldplay, while red marked those that leaned towards the Mahakumbh. The data was based on Google Trends from November onwards, ranking states on a scale from -100 (Coldplay) to 100 (Maha Kumbh).
Bihar stood out as the state with the highest interest in the Maha Kumbh. Northern states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand also showed a strong preference for the Kumbh. On the other hand, Coldplay found its biggest fan base in northeastern states such as Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, and Meghalaya, where searches for the band outnumbered those for the Kumbh.

Talking about Southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry, Coldplay was more popular here. Interestingly, Goa showed a balanced interest, with equal searches for both events. Despite hosting Coldplay concerts in cities like Mumbai and Ahmedabad, Gujarat and Maharashtra showed a stronger interest in the Mahakumbh.
Overall, the data highlights how people's interests in these two major events vary across regions of India, reflecting cultural preferences and local influences.

"The Mahamaham festival, occurring every 12 years in Kumbakonam, can be considered equivalent to Kumbh in TN. As for Coldplay, it's Margazhi season with Carnatic concerts happening statewide. Additionally, numerous concerts feature Tamil music directors; Coldplay can eff off," a user remarked. "Do not compare these. Categories are completely different. Coldplay is an Urban entertainment only," a second user commented.
"The data is not appropriate as Coldplay was the talk of the town in November and December, whereas Kumbh Mela became the talk of the town in January. I think you should compare from November 2024 to February 2025, then come up with Data, that will be appropriate," added a third user.
