Mumbai Bids Farewell To Red Double-Decker Buses: The streets in Mumbai will no longer witness the charm of the iconic red double-decker buses anymore, and no one is more sad about the decision than the Mumbaikars. The buses that were introduced back in 1937 into the city’s public transportation system, have been a huge part of the city’s transformation to Mumbai from Bombay. Now, after almost 80 years, the last red (non-AC) double-decker bus left the Marol Depot today, September 15. The buses were one of the best facilities by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), and its last ride was quick to leave the city emotional on its farewell. Taking to the internet, the netizens shared X (formerly Twitter) posts on the matter and recalled the good old days that Mumbai had with the buses. BEST’s open-deck double-decker buses for tourists' sightseeing will also be stop roaming the streets of the city soon. 

The iconic buses were introduced in 1937, and the number increased to 900 during the 90s. The popularity of these buses reached its peak during the 90s. From films to tourism, these buses became popular for more reasons than one. However, the city is all set to welcome another proud fleet of 900 AC double-decker e-buses that will take over the Mumbai streets in the next nine months.

Taking to social media, people flooded with selfies and posts where they remembered the buses and their services. Many expressed their sadness over the decision, while some dubbed it the end of an era. 

“Goodbye Double-Decker Bus. The Last Double Decker bus (non-AC) left from Marol Depot today morning,” a user said. 

“Mumbai’s iconic red double-decker bus are set to go off the streets - #Today Last Day,” said another. 

“People are rushing to board this iconic double decker bus of @myBESTBus outside Andheri stn. It will be there on #Mumbai roads until Sept 15. These double decker buses first started in 1937. Pax assns have requested @CMOMaharashtra to ask #BEST to preserve it,” said a third. 

“Final Stop: Last Diesel Double Decker Bus from Marol Depot Ends its Journey today. Last ride starts at 6:30 AM,” added a fourth person. 

“With BEST adapting to the new era of Electric Vehicles, the legendary diesel powered double decker bus will be bidding farewell from Mumbai roads. The last bus will run on 15th Sep 2023 marking the completion of 86 years of legacy,” joined a fifth person.

“With BEST adapting to the new era of Electric Vehicles, the legendary diesel powered double decker bus will be bidding farewell from Mumbai roads. The last bus will run on 15th Sep 2023 marking the completion of 86 years of legacy,” said a sixth.
