After months of uncertainty and an unexpectedly long stay in space, NASA astronauts Suita Williams and Butch Wilmore have finally set foot back on Earth. Their journey, which was supposed to be much shorter, stretched into nine long months due to a series of technical delays. But today, their adventure ended safely and successfully, thanks to SpaceX’s Dragon Freedom capsule. The spacecraft completed its mission by landing in the waters off the Florida coast near Tallahassee at 3:27 AM IST on Wednesday (5:57 PM ET, Tuesday).
This wasn’t just a solo return—Williams and Wilmore were accompanied by astronauts Nick Hague and Aleksandr Grebyonkin, who had been sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in December 2024 as part of a carefully planned rescue operation. After spending 17 hours traveling back home, all four astronauts made it back safely, marking a huge success for NASA and SpaceX.
The moment their capsule touched down, excitement spread like wildfire. Space enthusiasts, scientists, and netizens couldn’t contain their joy, flooding social media with celebratory messages. A video showing the astronauts being carefully lifted out of the capsule and taken for medical checkups quickly went viral, capturing the world’s admiration.
