Pakistan Newspaper Viral News: Readers were left stunned after Pakistan’s top English newspaper, Dawn, accidentally printed an AI-generated prompt from ChatGPT in its Business section, a mistake that quickly went viral online. The unexpected blunder appeared in an article about rising car sales, where instead of a regular paragraph, the printed text read: “If you want, I can also create an even snappier ‘front-page style’ version with punchy one-line stats and a bold, infographic-ready layout - perfect for maximum reader impact. Do you want me to do that next?”
It didn’t take long for people to notice. X user shared a photo of the newspaper cutout and wrote, “Chat GPT can help design pages, give snappy headlines and also eat up jobs of the desk hands who use it. This is from the Pak newspaper Dawn.” The post spread rapidly, gathering over 292k views within a day, and sparked a flood of online reactions.

As soon as the post went viral, Dawn issued an apology, admitting that the incident violated its editorial policy. The newspaper said in its official statement, “A newspaper report in today's Dawn was originally edited using AI, which is in violation of Dawn's current AI policy. The Dawn AI policy is available on our website.”
They further clarified that the digital version had been corrected, adding, “The original report also carried AI-generated artefact text from the editing process, which has been edited out in the digital version. The matter is being investigated, and the violation of AI policy is regretted.”

"It sounds like a classic case of confusing automation with outright replacement. I think these tools are fantastic for augmenting workflows, letting the "desk hands" focus on the bigger picture instead of the mundane bits," a user wrote. "And then the world is wondering about the state of news and media agencies. People just don't want to put their heart and soul into the craft. It's just sad beyond words," a second user wrote.

"Only the highlighted paragraph had an em dash, (a ChatGPT signature?)... as the remaining text was free from that natural suspicion is...was it added by someone and incorporated?" asked a third user. "More often than not, much of business reportage is nothing but PR handouts masquerading as original news dispatches," added another user.
