Imagine walking into a store and spotting a safety pin, but wait, it’s not the usual Rs 10 one. This one costs a jaw-dropping Rs 69,000. And yes, it’s from Prada. The luxury fashion brand has turned the humble safety pin into a high-end accessory, and the internet can’t stop talking about it. The so-called 'designer' safety pin comes with a sleek knitted-thread detail on one side and Prada’s iconic triangle logo charm. It’s made of brass and comes in three colours - pink, light blue, and orange. While it does look cute, many online users are wondering what makes it worth the price of a luxury bag.
A fashion influencer even posted a video calling out the bizarre pricing, asking, “rich people, what are you doing with your money?” and captioned it perfectly, “Stop doing money wrong.”
Founded by Mario Prada in 1913, the Italian label is known for its luxury handbags, shoes, and accessories. But this time, it’s not the style that’s turning heads, it’s the price tag that’s leaving everyone laughing and confused.

Social media users were quick to react to the safety pin brooch. The video shared a few days ago received significant likes, comments and views from users. "Luxury is just a money laundering scheme," a user wrote. "I'm positive girls in my grade one were making these in class. I hope they are making $775 for this skill," a second user wrote.
"As someone who works craft shows all use the sentence I hear all the time, 'Oh, I could make this at home.' It finally has actual use!" wrote a third user. "We were laughing at these in one of my crochet groups. Like, why are we working so hard when all we need to do is make up a few of these?" added a fourth user. "There is an Egyptian proverb that says: He who has money and is confused, buys a pigeon and sets it free," a fifth user added.
"Am I the only one buying a sack of safety pins and about to make a gazillion of these? I have a yarn stash enough to fund a small country," added a sixth user. "This is called a friendship pin, and I made them for pennies in the early 80s in elementary school to swap with friends. Nothing original from designers anymore. Just recycled ideas with ridiculous price tags," wrote another user.
