CCTV Viral Video: In a country like India, being careless is not an option until one’s goal is to end up being a victim of almost any kind of crime. One must be either lucky or be in the right place at the right time if they want to be careless enough, especially when carrying valuables. An elderly couple from Pune learned the same the hard way as they were robbed in broad daylight on August 29. The said duo had a bag of gold jewellery with them while they were returning home reportedly from the bank. Midway, the couple decided to stop for Vada Pav, where the bag was pretty much loosely attended. What happened next left very few people surprised, as a man walking by grabbed the bag and ran away. As per the reports, the bag had gold jewellery worth Rs 4.9 lakh in it.
As soon as the man began to run, the elderly woman who was standing near the scooter where the bag was kept, began to shout, resulting in a public gathering around her. The man on the other hand who was buying Vada Pav at the time, also ran towards the scooter to see what happened. The entire incident was caught on a CCTV camera that was installed nearby. As per reports, the matter is being investigated by the police.
The jewellery theft video, after getting shared, went viral and left people reacting. Most found the incident saddening as they sympathised with the duo, while the rest blamed the elderly couple for being ‘careless’ with a bag full of gold.
The video was shared on X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘satyaagrahindia’. The post was captioned, “Pune Couple Stops for Vada Pav, Loses Rs 5 Lakh Worth of Jewellery to Thief.” The video was shared two days ago and pulled countless views.

Taking to the internet, people shared their take. “Stupid people who don’t know how to secure precious things. Will lose one way or another. Who hangs a purse like that if it had so much gold,” a user said. “Hence proved, Vada pav is more valuable than gold,” added a second person. “But, why don't they put it inside the boot of the vehicle,” wrote the next.
“It was highly irresponsible behavior from that couple. Indians in the US wouldn't act that way, so why should anyone feel safe exposing valuables on the street in India, risking theft?” added another person. “Stealing from old people, even thieves need to have some principles. Uff,” commented a fifth person.
