A restaurant in Ayodhya went viral a few days back, but unfortunately, it was for all the wrong reasons. The restaurant, Shabari Rasoi, built in a multi-storeyed building made major headlines for serving tea and a toast costing Rs 252. A customer, rushing into action, shared the picture of the receipt, which ended up raising several questions on the issue of ‘expensive restaurants’ near the newly built Ram Temple. As soon as the matter went viral, it ended up dividing people as some called it ‘fair’ and the rest dubbed it a ‘loot’. However, the incident turned into a ‘legal’ nightmare for the restaurant after the Ayodhya Development Authority reportedly got involved.

According to the reports, the ADA sent a notice to the restaurant for ‘overcharging’. As per the reports by the Times of India, the restaurant was listed under the ‘under the budget category’, where it was reportedly ‘under contract’ to serve both tea and toast for Rs 10 each.

The ADA had now given three days to the restaurant to ‘clarify’ the ‘overcharging’. Meanwhile, the restaurant will reportedly lose its ‘contract’ with the ADA if it fails to send a clarification.

The post with the receipt was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘govindprataps12’. The post was captioned, “Ayodhya Shabari Kitchen. A tea of Rs 55. A toast for Rs 65. There is loot in the name of Ram, loot if you can.”

The post is going viral on social media as it ended up dividing the internet. Taking to the comment section, people shared their take. “So why do you go to such places?? No one would have caught you and taken you away. Service should be complete, the air gets spoiled at the time of giving money. There will be hundreds of street vendors whose quality will be there and money will also be saved,” a user said.

“If you make a pilgrimage to a tourist destination then where will the reverence come from? Everyone is busy cashing in on Ram!” said a second person. “Brother, you will get bloated after eating free food. Eat your hard work,” commented a third netizen.

“Can't find this five-star hotel in Google Maps,” said another. “CCD ki 200 k coffee to sasti hoti hogi na (The coffee worth Rs 200 in CCD must be really cheap?)” said the next.

“You can choose another place to drink tea. They serve tea for just Rs 10 at roadside stalls. You will also find a huge number of ‘bhandaras’ where they serve food for free. Stop all this nonsense,” said another.
