In recent weeks, many prominent Indian personalities found themselves deep in the AI deepfake quagmire. From South Sensation Rashmika Mandanna to actor Kajol, many faced severe consequences of other people misusing the technology of AI. Amid all this, the latest to raise her voice against the issue was Sara Tendulkar, daughter of the ‘God of Cricket' Sachin Tendulkar. Taking to social media, she opened up about the recent misuse of the ‘technology’ and addressed some ‘parody’ X (formerly Twitter) accounts for creating her deepfake photos, which she wrote were ‘far from reality’.
The post was shared on Sara’s Instagram story, which read, “Social media is a wonderful space for all of us to share our joys, sorrows, and daily activities.
However, it is disconcerting to see the misuse of technology as it takes away from the truth and authenticity of the internet. I have come across some deepfake photos of me which are far from reality. A few accounts on X (formerly Twitter) have obviously been created with an intent to impersonate me and mislead people. I do not have an account on X, and I hope X looks into such accounts and suspends them.
Entertainment should never come at the expense of the truth. Let’s encourage communication that’s based in trust and reality.”

Recently, a video of Mandanna also went viral where she was seen entering an elevator in a revealing attire. However, it later turned out to be deepfake, which was created using the original video of a British-Indian influencer, Zara Patel.

Something similar took place with ace actor Kajol, where a deepfake video of her was created using a clip of someone else changing clothes on camera. The original video over which Kajol’s face was edited, was of an influencer named Rosie Breen, who was making a video for TikTok.
