Scam 2003 The Telgi Story: Scam 2003- The Telgi Story, the second installment of the ‘Scam’ series just dropped on SonyLIV today, September 01, and the fans are here for it. The name pretty much explains itself, as the series is based on the story of a criminal mastermind who rose to a podium that made him rich but also became the end of him, Abdul Telgi. The series has been directed by Tushar Hiranandani and is based on the popular book ‘Telgi Scam: Reporter's ki Diary’ by Sanjay Singh. Hansal Mehta, the man responsible for the record-breaking 2020 web series ‘Scam 1992’, is the Creative Director for the recent installment of the series.

Who is Abdul Telgi?

Abdul Telgi, the source of the recent series, became a known name for all the wrong reasons in the country. The man began his journey as a simple fruit seller who had some big dreams to achieve. But his journey toward that very dream ultimately turned him into a person who gave Indians another major counterfeiting scam.

Born in 1961, the man had a rough childhood and began selling fruits at an early age to support his education after his father died. Telgi’s journey towards counterfeiting took wheels after the man went to Saudi Arabia. Returning back to India after seven years, he opened a fake passport business and ended up sending countless immigrants out of India after forging fake documents. His company was called Arabian Metro Travels.

After a while, Telgi decided to take a leap and jumped into the business of counterfeit stamp paper. He managed to sell fake stamps to banks, insurance companies, and more.

Unfortunately for him, the police and the authorities caught him in the end, and he was imprisoned for 30 years in 2006. He received an additional sentence of 13 years in 2007, along with a Rs 202 crore fine. Lastly, the man breathed his last in 2017. He was a diabetic and also suffered from hypertension, while meningitis became the reason for his sudden demise.
