Some office stories leave everyone confused and amused at the same time and this one has become the latest viral example. A consultant recently shared an unusual leave request from his junior, and the reason behind it has the internet in splits. Shifting the tone right from the start, Gaurav Sharma explained on LinkedIn how one ordinary email suddenly made him pause. The leave request looked normal at first, until he reached the part that said “Sicko Leave.” He was convinced it had to be a typo.
To clear things up, he called the employee, expecting the usual explanation. Maybe the person meant 'sick leave,' or maybe they’d just mistyped the word. But the reply he received was completely unexpected. The team member confidently said, “No sir, Sicko Leave. Travis Scott is performing in Mumbai that day.” That line alone made Sharma double-check his screen.
The longer he thought about it, the more the situation hit him. He even wrote, "I think this might be the moment I officially realised I am getting old," and that maybe the office rules he grew up with don’t apply to the new generation anymore.

The email itself was written like a friendly note: “Hey Gaurav, Hope you’re doing well! I wanted to request leave for Wednesday, 19th November. Travis Scott is performing in Mumbai that day, and I’ve got tickets.” The next part made the request even more unique: “While it’s important to work, it’s just as important to vibe. So please consider this my official application for one day of Sicko Leave - purely in the interest of maintaining work-life balance and cultural relevance.”
For Sharma, the whole thing felt both unbelievable and oddly entertaining. He wrote, "Back in our day, if you needed a day off, you came up with a solid reason. Fever. Family function. Dead Grandparent. Something believable." Wrapping up his post, he added, "Don’t get me wrong - I love music. But if concerts are now a reason to take a mid-week leave, I have clearly fostered the wrong work culture."

The incident instantly became a talking point online. People loved the honesty, laughed at the term 'Sicko Leave,' and even debated how workplaces are changing with new generations who prioritise personal joy just as much as professional life.
"Sicko leave is a good one, hopefully we can implement it in HCMS. At least he is honest & straightforward. Unlike when we got headaches during every cricket match when we were in school," a user wrote. "Honestly, it’s completely okay, it’s his casual leave after all, part of his CTC. Why should anyone have to 'kill off' a grandparent just to take a day off?" a second user wrote.

"I believe you have fostered the right work culture. When your team member has been able to openly tell you the truth of his actual reasons for taking a leave," wrote a third user. "I'm taking 'Sicko Leave' and running with it! You're right, the term alone signals a new era where authenticity (even for a concert) trumps a flimsy excuse," added a fourth user.
