Viral Reddit Post: A college girl in Gandhinagar was ready to move into a rented flat with two other girls. They had paid the brokerage, shifted their things, and were just waiting to sign the agreement. Everything seemed settled until a neighbour stepped in. As shared in a viral Reddit post by her brother (@smash_1048), “Before they could start living there, a neighbour's uncle went to the builder and objected to renting the flat to single girls.” Even though the landlord had no issue, the builder refused to let them stay. The girl even tried to talk to the neighbour, but “the guy just hung up on her. Then he blocked her everywhere.”
Left helpless, they had to start house-hunting all over again. The brother called the incident “discriminatory” and questioned why young, single adults are still treated unfairly when looking for a place to live. "Why should young adults be they students or working, be denied a place to live after everything is finalised just because of outdated societal biases?" The post has sparked outrage online, with many calling out the old-fashioned mindset behind such behaviour.

The post shared a few hours ago pulled many reactions from Reddit users. "I got kicked out of my apartment in Patna by my landlord who has been living in Mumbai for the last 15 years and never visits," a user wrote. "Well in India people worry more about what is happening in their neighbour's house. They don't spare families how will they spare bachelors," a second user added.
"I had a neighbour in Mumbai who was against us renting a place because we weren’t Gujarati Jains. Even funnier she even mailed the society manager that she only wants Gujarati Jains living in her neighbouring flat. Wait it’s not over, seeing that mail the society manager kicked us out lol- first revoked our my gate access, then refused guests to enter if they were to our place, he even asked us to carry the fridge to the main gate because while we were moving out because we weren’t allowed to have people come to our flat. People really confuse me sometimes," a third user shared her experience.

"It's difficult to get an apartment for bachelor girls everywhere I guess. Been there done that," a fourth user added. "Unfortunately the heading of the post was enough for me to guess which state it was. Hope it gets better someday," wrote another user.
