Making a unique record that entered her name in history, Kalpana Balan etched her name in the Guinness World Records for having the most number of teeth in a person’s mouth (female). The 26-year-old Balan has 38 teeth in total and hails from Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur. Her unique set of teeth was verified on June 24 this year, according to the Guinness World Records. With ‘four extra mandibular (lower jaw) teeth and two extra maxillary (upper jaw) teeth’, the woman was quick to make headlines as soon as she made the record and left everyone intrigued.

Balan’s extra pair of teeth began to grow when she was a teen. The new teeth, as per Balan, ‘shocked’ her parents who suggested they be removed. On consulting with her dentist, she was then suggested to let the teeth grow fully so that the removal process could be eased. Not causing any pain, the extra ones mostly never bothered the record breaker, however, Balan did face issues with them while eating as food reportedly often ended up getting stuck.

However, when the time came to bid farewell to the extra teeth, Balan changed her mind due to her ‘fear of going through the procedure’, as per the Guinness World Records. “I am so happy to get the Guinness World Records title,” she was later quoted as saying in the reports. Calling the record her ‘lifetime achievement’, she may reportedly have two more teeth in the future, which are yet to grow out.

The record for the same in males was made by Evano Mellone, back in 2021. With 41 teeth in his mouth, the man easily broke the last record of 37 teeth (male), according to the Guinness World Records. Mellone was from Canada.
