YouTuber Viral Post: Why do so many Indians feel like they’re always working, with no time to breathe? A viral post by popular finance YouTuber and content creator Akshat Shrivastava has brought this question into the spotlight, and it’s hitting home for thousands. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Akshat didn’t blame individuals for this exhausting work culture. Instead, he pointed to something much bigger, a system that trains people from a young age to keep working nonstop. "Indians are the most overworked people on earth. Not by choice. But, by system," he wrote. He explained how children preparing for tough competitive exams like IIT-JEE are made to study for 10–12 hours daily. This habit of “slogging,” he said, doesn’t stop after school. It follows them into adult life.

“This habit continues in adult life,” he added. “Many hardworking Indians migrate abroad. While their European colleagues have downtime, Indians sacrifice their sleep, family, and health to serve their company.” Akshat believes this isn’t just about ambition, it’s about survival. He shared how many kids are pushed into overworking because it’s seen as the only way to secure a better future. “Many hardworking kids have no choice but to slog. Build merit → build a better life. That's their only option." His post quickly went viral, sparking thousands of reactions online.

The post, after being shared on X (Formerly Twitter) yesterday, received 54k views from social media users. While many agreed with his views, sharing their own experiences, others offered different opinions. One user wrote, "I've never seen someone so brilliantly astute when it comes to financial literacy and that part of the horizon, and then be a completely oblivious illiterate when it comes to social aspects. Just fascinating that someone can be this knowledgeable and this ignorant at the same time." "I strongly believe that one needs to start a side hustle very early in their career and move to it full-time as soon as possible. That is the only way to break out of this slogging culture," a second user added.

"Indians are often trapped in a cycle of relentless hard work, chasing middle-class stability without questioning the true return on investment for their efforts. The grind for IIT or NIT can open doors, but why does the pressure to top the class start so early, robbing teens of their youth?" a third user wrote. "Indians don’t hustle out of ambition. They hustle because the system taught them there’s no safety net, only grind or fall," added a fourth user.
