30-year-old Amritpal Singh is the chief of Waris Punjab De group and is dubbed as Bhindrawale 2.0 among the Khalistani fanatics.
Waris Punjab De, which roughly translates to ‘Heirs of Punjab’, is an organisation that aims to ‘protect and fight for rights of Punjab’. However, the group is infamous for its support to Khalistan.
After the death of its founder Deep Sidhu in 2022, Singh took over as the chief in a ceremony that took place in the ancestral village of Bhindranwale.
Amritpal Singh started doing the rounds after a huge mob of his supporters attacked a police station on the outskirts of Amritsar in February 2023 to get his aide Lovepreet Singh released from jail.
The Punjab police last week launched a manhunt for Amritpal Singh over his alleged relations with Pakistani intelligence agency ISI among other cases.
