WHAT IS OPERATION SINDOOR?

On May 7th, 2025, the Indian Armed Forces executed a planned attack at nine terroists' hideouts, particularly four in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

WHY WAS THE ATTACK EXECUTED?

The attack came in response to the deadly terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22nd, 2025. 26 people were killed in the attack.

MEDIA BRIEFING ON THE OPERATION SINDOOR

Colonel Sophia Qureshi addressed the high-level media briefing about Operation Sindoor. She mentioned that the attack was launched on May 7th, 2025, between 1:05 AM to 1:30 AM to give justice to the victims of the Pahalgam attack.

WHO IS COLONEL SOPHIA QURESHI?

Colonel Sophia Qureshi is an officer of the Indian Army’s Corps of Signals. She hails from Gujarat and has completed a postgraduate degree in biochemistry.

MILITARY SERVICE IN HER BLOOD

Colonel Sophia Qureshi’s grandfather also served in the Indian Army. Her husband is also an Army officer from the Mechanised Infantry.

FIRST WOMAN TO COMMAND AN INDIAN CONTINGENT

Colonel Sophia Qureshi became the first woman officer to command an Indian Army contingent at a multi-national military exercise in 2016. ‘Exercise Force 18’ was India’s largest hosted foreign military drill.

ONLY WOMAN LEADER

The exercise aimed at Peacekeeping Operations and Humanitarian Mine Action. Col. Sophia was the only woman leader among the 18 contingents.

SERVED IN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS

As per Moneycontrol, Sophia Qureshi served as a peacekeeper in the US Peacekeeping Mission in Congo in 2006. She has been associated with the mission for six years.
