After British India gained independence in 1947, the country was divided into India and Pakistan as a result of partition. After the partition, both nations fought four wars against each other.
The first war between India and Pakistan took place between 1947-48 due to the accession of Jammu and Kashmir. The war ended with a ceasefire and the Line of Control (LoC) establishment.
The Indo-Pak war was fought for 17 days in 1965 over the attempt to gain control over Kashmir. Though the outcome remains debated, it was brokered by the Soviet Union and the US, which resulted in a ceasefire.
The Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 was started by the people who were struggling for independence. India’s intervention led to the creation of Bangladesh, and Pakistan suffered a loss.
The Kargil war was fought in 1999 when Pakistani forces infiltrated the India-administered region to gain control. The Indian army pushed back the intruders and gained control again.
