The Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan. It was brokered by the World Bank. The river originates from China, flows through India and then into Pakistan.
The Indus Water Treaty was signed on September 19, 1960. It was signed between former Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan President Ayub Khan.
As per Britannica, the treaty gave the eastern rivers - Ravi, Beas and Sutlej to India and the western rivers - Indus, Jhelum and Chenab to Pakistan.
After the partition of India and Pakistan, the river which flows from Tibet to Pakistan through India became a tension. The World Bank decided to end this by signing a treaty.
Recently, India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan meets 80% of its water needs through the water flow. It will impact agriculture and daily livelihoods.
