Among the highest civilian awards in India, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri are the ones. They are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA?

According to the official website of the Padma Awards, everyone, irrespective of race, sex, occupation or position, is eligible to receive the award.

WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE?

As per the official notification, government servants, including those working with PSUs are not eligible for this award. Doctors and scientists are exempted from this.

WHY IS THE AWARD GIVEN?

The award is conferred on people to recognise their ‘distinctive and exceptional’ contribution in any field or discipline. It can be art, literature, sports, education, civil service, etc.

HOW TO NOMINATE?

The Ministry has requested people to nominate or recommend exceptional people. They can do nominations through the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal.
