Developing a railway system in Sikkim is economically unfeasible and challenging because of the geographical location. It has a mountainous terrain and deep valleys.
Due to the absence of Railways, people move via roadways or airways. The government has started a railway project in Sikkim, which is expected to be completed by 2029.
