Have you ever thought why there is a difference between the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy salutes? Tap to check out the answer.
The Indian Army performs the traditional salute with the right hand palm open, fingers joined, and the middle finger touching the hatband or eyebrow.
The Indian Army follows a hierarchical manner. This type of salute symbolises discipline, readiness and acknowledgement of the top rank or commander.
The salute of the Indian Air Force is slightly angled at 45 degrees to the ground with palm open and fingers joined. The salute was adopted on March 15th, 2006.
The salute of the Indian Air Force was the same as the Indian Army. A distinctive salute pointing upwards was chosen as it symbolises the rise of aircraft to the skies.
The Indian Navy salute is performed with an open palm facing the ground, 90 degrees to the forehead. It is the opposite of the salute style of the Indian Army.
Earlier, the naval personnel had to work in tough conditions and saluting with dirty hands was considered a sign of disrespect. To avoid disrespect and maintain dignity, this salute was carried.
