An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on Richter scale hit Afghanistan on Saturday at 12:17 pm(IST), the National Center for Seismology reported. The tremors of strong earthquake were also felt in parts of India including Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi-NCR. Apart from Northern India, North-West Pakistan also experienced the impact of the earthquake. 

A local in Srinagar was quoted as saying, "I felt the tremor. I was in the office when my chair shook." 

EaAn earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale hit Nagaon district of Assam on Saturday morning, according to the National Center for Seismology(NCS). The tremor occurred at 7:38 am with a latitude of 26.50 and a longitude of 93.27.

According to NCS, the quake took place at a depth of 130km. "EQ of M: 5.8, On: 19/04/2025 12:17:53 IST, Lat: 36.10 N, Long: 71.20 E, Depth: 130 Km, Location: Afghanistan,” NCS said in an X post. 

Before this, Afghanistan was hit by an earthquake of magnitude 5 in the early hours of April 16 at 04:43 AM Indian Standard Time (IST), the NCS had reported. 

As per the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), Afghanistan remains highly vulnerable to natural disasters, including seasonal flooding, landslides and earthquakes.
