Uttara Plane Crash: At least 19 people lost their lives while more than 100 others sustained injuries after a training aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force crashed into a college canteen in Dhaka's Uttara on Monday. As per an official announcement made by the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR), the training aircraft, an F-7 BGI, had departed at 1:06 PM and crashed at about 1:30 PM in the Diabari area near Milestone College and School, Uttara.

Duty officer at Fire Service control room, Lima Khan, confirmed that injured people were airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for emergency treatment. More than 50 people, including children and adults, were hospitalised with burns at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. 

Three units of the Fire Service rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. The aircraft reportedly crashed onto the roof of the college canteen, triggering panic among locals and students nearby. Two BGB platoons have also been sent to assist in the rescue and ensure law and order at the site.

Following the incident, Interim Government Chief Muhammad Yunus posted on X (formerly Twitter), "I express my deep grief and sorrow over the tragic incident of casualties caused by the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BJI training aircraft at the Milestone School and College campus in the Diabari area of the capital today. The loss suffered by the Air Force, the students, parents, teachers, and staff of Milestone School and College, as well as others affected by this accident, is irreparable."

"This is a moment of profound pain for the nation. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and direct all concerned authorities, including hospitals, to address the situation with the utmost priority. The government will take necessary measures to investigate the cause of the accident and ensure all forms of assistance," he added. 

The government has declared a one-day state mourning on Tuesday in response to the tragic crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft on the Milestone School and College campus in Dhaka’s Diabari area, which resulted in multiple casualties.

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman ordered Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, Chhatra Dal, and members of the BNP Health Team to go to the spot and help the injured and rescue teams.

Senior authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport have confirmed the incident but made no announcement on the reason for the crash or the status of the pilot. An investigation has been initiated by the Bangladesh Air Force and concerned law enforcement agencies to identify the actual reason behind the crash.
