Charlie Kirk Killed News: Charlie James Kirk, a conservative activist and close ally of President Donald Trump, was shot dead at the Utah Valley University event. Videos emerged on social media showing Kirk speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent emblazoned with the slogans in the presence of thousands of his supporters, when he was attacked. US President Donald Trump, confirming his death, said no one understood or had the Heart of the youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. Kirk had adopted a hard line on immigration, abortion, gun control and race. He was also critical of Indian immigrants.

Kirk Had Opposed More Visas For Indians On Sept 2 X Post

A few days ago, he targeted India amid tariff talks with New Delhi, asserting America does not need more visas for people from India.

On September 2, the co-founder and CEO of the youth organisation 'Turning Point USA' posted on X, "America does not need more visas for people from India. Perhaps no form of legal immigration has so displaced American workers as those from India. Enough already. We’re full. Let’s finally put our own people first."

His post came as a response to an X post by Laura Ingraham, Fox News anchor. In her post, she assessed that any trade deal with India would mean the United states having to grant more visas.

"Don’t forget that any trade deal with India will require us to give them more visas. I’d rather not pay them in visas and trade deficits. Let Modi see what terms he can get from Xi instead," she wrote on X.

Kirk's comment on visas for Indians echoed the Trump administration's sentiment over the H1B programme - the most sought-after non-immigrant visa among Indian IT professionals - and the Green Card. Since Trump came to power in January this year, he has taken a hard stance on immigrants, both legal and illegal. Trump signed several orders to discourage the inflow of Indians into the USA.

Trump Administration To Change H1B Programme

Recently on August 28, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said the Trump administration was planning to change the H1B programme, and also bring changes to the Green Card process.

"I'm involved in changing the H1B programme. We're going to change that programme, because that's terrible," Lutnick said in an interview to Fox News. He added that the Trump administration is also going to change the Green Card process that provides permanent residency in the US.
