For centuries, the eerie prophecies of mystics have fascinated the world. Among the most well-known names in the realm of predictions are Baba Vanga, the blind Bulgarian mystic, and Michel de Nostredame, better known as Nostradamus, the 16th-century French astrologer and physician. Despite living centuries apart and in vastly different cultural contexts, both are credited by believers with foreseeing some of history’s most defining and devastating moments.
From the horrific September 11 attacks in New York City to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the chilling accuracy of some of their forecasts continues to stir debate among sceptics and spiritualists alike.
Over time, a number of historical tragedies and global turning points have been linked to vague yet haunting lines from their predictions. Supporters point to Baba Vanga’s mention of “steel birds” crashing into towers, interpreted by many as a reference to the 9/11 attacks, and to Nostradamus’s reference to “two cities” being destroyed by unseen scourges, widely associated with the World War II bombings in Japan.
Baba Vanga’s Predictions That Came True
1. 9/11 Attacks:
Baba Vanga, a blind Bulgarian mystic, is believed to have predicted the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States. She reportedly spoke of “steel birds” bringing death and destruction, which many interpret as a reference to the hijacked planes that crashed into the Twin Towers.
2. Princess Diana’s Death:
Vanga is also said to have foreseen the untimely and tragic death of Princess Diana in 1997, although details surrounding the prediction remain controversial.
3. Rise of China:
Decades ago, Baba Vanga predicted that China would become a global superpower, overtaking Western countries. In recent years, as China's economic and political influence has expanded, many cite this prophecy as having come true.
4. COVID-19 Pandemic:
Some claim that Baba Vanga foresaw a worldwide outbreak of disease, which they believe corresponds to the COVID-19 pandemic that swept the globe in 2020, although this interpretation remains debated.
Nostradamus’s Predictions That Came True
1. Great Fire of London (1666):
In one of his quatrains, Nostradamus wrote about a great fire consuming a city in the “66.” Believers see this as a clear reference to the Great Fire of London that devastated much of the city in 1666.
2. Death of King Henry II:
Nostradamus predicted a young lion would pierce the eye of an older one in a jousting match. This is believed to have foretold the death of Henry II of France, who was mortally wounded in a jousting accident in 1559.

3. Rise of Napoleon and Hitler:
His writings refer to a figure rising from Europe of humble origin who would lead a great army. This has been interpreted as a prophecy of Napoleon Bonaparte. Another quatrain mentions fighting “close by the Hister,” which some associate with Adolf Hitler, though sceptics argue “Hister” refers to the Danube River’s old name.
4. Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings:
Nostradamus wrote about “two cities” where “scourges the like of which was never seen” would occur. This has been linked to the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II, and the resulting devastation that changed the course of history.
