A 28-year-old woman from Suzhou in China’s Jiangsu province suffered life-threatening complications after using “3.5kg per shot” weight-loss injections promoted on social media, raising fresh concerns about unregulated slimming products sold online.
According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the woman, identified as Chen, paid 900 yuan (around US$130) for a three-injection package that promised dramatic, guaranteed results. She injected only half the recommended dose around her belly button but soon experienced nausea, vomiting and complete loss of appetite.
Vomiting Bile And Blood Sparks Medical Emergency
Although she initially ignored the symptoms, Chen’s condition rapidly worsened on the fourth day. She began vomiting green and yellow fluid, later identified as bile, indicating damage to her stomach lining. She then vomited blood while undergoing an electrocardiogram, confirming bleeding in her digestive tract.
Doctors revealed that Chen’s condition became critical when her pulse reportedly stopped, requiring immediate emergency procedures. She later learned she had also undergone treatment for atrial fibrillation while unconscious and had narrowly avoided being declared in critical condition.

Doctors Warn Of Long-Term Health Risks
Medical staff advised Chen to avoid trying to conceive for at least a year due to the damage her body had suffered. Her case highlights the serious reproductive and organ health risks associated with unverified slimming injections.
Health experts have increasingly warned the public about weight-loss products promoted through social media, many of which contain unknown or illegal substances. Authorities and doctors are calling for stronger regulation and stricter oversight of cosmetic and medical treatments sold online to prevent similar incidents.
