A woman was arrested at Salt Lake City International Airport on Wednesday following what is said to have been a violent assault on several individuals, including an employee of Delta Air Lines, according to a report by the New York Post. Cody Sierra Marie Bryne, 31, is facing charges of sexual battery, assault, and public intoxication after the incident.

It started when Bryne got onto a Delta flight in Salt Lake City bound for Portland, Oregon. Bryne, police affidavits say, resisted repeated requests from the flight attendants to exit the aeroplane aisle, denying other travellers access to their seats.

Flight attendants reported detecting the smell of alcohol on Bryne’s breath. Despite her insistence that she had only consumed three beers and was not drunk, the pilot decided to have her removed from the plane for the safety of passengers and crew.

Violent Outburst At The Airport

As Bryne was being escorted off the aircraft, she allegedly attempted to flee past Delta employees into a secure area of the airport. Employees were able to stop her, but Bryne then grabbed a Delta worker by the back of the neck, trying to push the employee’s head toward the ground. Court records also indicate she pulled on the employee’s hair during the altercation.

Salt Lake County officials confirmed Bryne's actions escalated beyond the first assault, characterising the event as a string of increasingly violent acts against airline staff.

Charges And Booking

Cody Sierra Marie Bryne was arrested on Thursday and taken into custody at the Salt Lake County Jail. She has several charges pending against her, ranging from public intoxication to sexual battery, assault, and interfering with a peace officer. The police are studying surveillance tapes as well as witness statements during their investigation. Delta Air Lines remains silent so far on releasing an official statement about Bryne's arrest. Passengers were said to have kept calm during the incident, with no reported injuries except for the Delta worker's slight physical injury.
