An old video from Serbia showing a glowing, diamond-shaped object in the night sky has once again taken over social media, sparking renewed debates about UFOs and alien encounters. The clip, allegedly recorded in Belgrade in 2020 by a young boy and his father, resurfaced this week and quickly went viral, reviving what online users are now calling the “Diamond UFO” mystery.

In the recirculated video footage, a diamond-shaped red light glows over the city before slowly changing into an ambiguous vessel-like shadow. The unsteady motion and difficulty in maintaining focus only increased the ambiguity, with the viewer questioning the validity of the clip. The couple recording the phenomenon befits the scene with their disbelief voices, though the recording makes little clear about the object in question.

The re-emergence of the video has garnered thousands of comments across the Internet. Some believe it depicts an alien spaceship, but others have called it just another drone or electronic sleight-of-hand. “Damn, this is so realistic,” one X user commented, with another stating, “Nah. That’s just some good ol’ American Groom Lake tech.”

Netizens Splitting

Just like with the majority of virulent "sighting of UFOs" videos, the Internet is divided starkly. There are some people who argue that the light's organised, symmetrical shape eliminates ordinary explanations such as the weather balloon or plane lights. Other people observe that the object's colouration, motion, and seemingly-hovering behaviour resemble that of expensive drones or research UAVs.

Some Internet commentators even drew parallels between the shape of the object with Chinese stealth drones such as the Type B or GJ-11 and issued speculation that it may be a mistaken military prototype or CGI image. But there is no word of official report or radar evidence substantiating any unidentified aerial activity near Belgrade that evening.

Contributing to the internet frenzy had also been the fact that "UFO" is the name given to the recent experimental music fest in Belgrade. The event at the Atelje 212 theatre comprised experimental and electronic acts, leading some people to quip that the viral "Diamond UFO" may actually be in the marketing plan for the show.
