Ebrahim Raisi Funeral: Iranian Vice-President for Executive Affairs, Mohsen Mansouri, announced the details of the mourning ceremonies around Iran, marking the death of former President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a chopper crash in East Azerbaijan province on Sunday. He stated that the last rites of former President Ebrahim Raisi will take place in the holy city of Mashhad and the body of the leader would be buried on Thursday in the Imam Reza Shrine, which is also the third largest mosque compound in the world.
Before his burial in the holy city of Mashhad, mourning ceremonies will also be held in Tabriz, Qom, Tehran and Birjand, which are the places where Ebrahim Raisi spent most of his life studying Islamic jurisprudence or serving the people of Islamic Republic of Iran. Notably, Ebrahim Raisi earlier served as the head of Astan Quds Razavi, the organisation which manages the holy shrine of Imam Reza, which will soon be his resting place.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Monday declared five days of national mourning over the incident, which led to deaths of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Governor of East Azerbaijan Province Malek Rahmati and Iran's supreme leader's representative to East Azerbaijan Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, along with other members of the convoy who were on board at the time of crash.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Education Ministry has cancelled all students' exams from Tuesday to Friday and the authorities have also announced nationwide closure on the request by people in different provinces to attend the mourning ceremonies being held in remembrance and honour of the 'martyrs'.

The crash occurred on Sunday in Varzaqan County as Raisi, along with his accompanying team on board three helicopters, was on his way from Khoda Afarin County, where he had attended the inauguration ceremony of a storage dam along with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev earlier on Monday, to the provincial capital Tabriz.The members onboard Raisi's helicopter lost their lives.
Iran Presidential Election 2024
Iran's government announced that the country's 14th presidential election will be held on June 28, adhering to the Iranian Constitution which mandates the election of a new President within a maximum of 50 days after the first vice-president takes office.
The election date was determined in a meeting attended by Iran's First Vice-President Mohammad Mokhber, currently assuming the presidency, Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, as well as Vice-President for Legal Affairs Mohammad Dehqan and representatives of the Iranian Constitutional Council and Interior Ministry.
In the meeting, the attendees established a timeline for the electoral procedures, which encompasses the creation of executive committees, candidate enrollment and the initiation of campaign activities, as reported by IRNA.
Based on the schedule, candidate registration will take place from May 30 to June 3. Subsequently, the candidates are slated to embark on their campaign efforts from June 12 to June 27. According to IRNA, the Constitutional Council has preliminarily agreed to this timetable.
