A fresh political controversy erupted in the United States after Eric Trump, son of US President Donald Trump, accused New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani of “hating Indians” during an interview with Fox News. Trump Jr. launched a sharp attack on Mamdani, claiming the incoming mayor harbours hostility toward “the Indian population,” “the Jewish population,” and adheres to what he described as “socialist” and “communist” ideologies.
In the Fox News interview, Eric Trump alleged that Mamdani “wants to arrest Netanyahu,” referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and argued that the mayor-elect’s political positions would harm New York City. “There’s no place in the world that could compete against New York City, and yet you have a socialist, a communist, however you want to label him, who wants to nationalise grocery stores, wants to arrest Netanyahu, hates the Jewish people, hates the Indian population, wants to defund law enforcement,” Trump Jr. claimed.

Eric Trump Slams Mamdani’s Left-Wing Agenda
He further insisted that instead of pushing left-wing policies, Mamdani should prioritise “safe streets, clean streets, reasonable taxes,” and reduce government interference in the city’s functioning. According to Eric Trump, Mamdani’s rise represents a “radical transformation” driven by far-left ideology, which he said is responsible for the decline of major American cities.
The accusations mark a significant escalation in political rhetoric targeted at Mamdani, who is set to become the 111th mayor of New York on January 1, 2026. Mamdani, the Ugandan-born son of filmmaker Mira Nair and prominent academic Mahmood Mamdani, has been a vocal progressive advocate, campaigning heavily on issues of affordability, housing access, and social welfare.
Speaking at a food pantry in the Bronx, he revealed that his team had reached out to the White House to schedule a potential meeting with Donald Trump. He emphasised that he was willing to work with anyone, including the US president, if it meant improving life for New Yorkers. “I will work every day to honour the trust placed in me,” Mamdani said, expressing optimism about constructive dialogue.
Donald Trump himself confirmed that he expects to meet Mamdani soon, telling reporters, “We’ll work something out.” The brief comment suggested that even amid heated political accusations, both sides may seek opportunities for cooperation.
