Amid strained India-US trade relations, a video of US President Donald Trump is going viral with claims that he blamed India for the floods in Pakistan. The floods have caused major chaos in Pakistan

Vishvas News, in its investigation, found this claim to be fake. The viral video is a deepfake; Trump never made any statement linking floods in Pakistan to India's releasing water.

What is viral?

Social media user ‘Waheed Asghar Bhatti’ shared the viral video with the caption, “U.S. President Donald J. Trump has clearly held India accountable for the flooding situation in Pakistan. President DonaldJ. Trump has strongly and openly expressed his support for Pakistan and the people of Pakistan, and the President assures their cooperation with #Pakistan during this difficult time. Prowa Medical Instruments…U.S. Embassy Pakistan Pakistan Embassy US…The White House The President said, Let me tell you the truth — and nobody tells the truth like I do. The horrible floods in Pakistan, the destruction, the tragedy. It’s not just climate, it’s not just rain — it’s India. Believe me, India opened their dams in Kashmir. Very unfair, very dangerous. They opened the gates, and millions of tons of water came rushing into Pakistan through Ravi, through Chenab, through Sat Lodge. Everybody knows it, but nobody says it. I’m saying it. Pakistan is suffering — villages underwater, families displaced, children crying, innocent people losing homes, losing crops, losing everything. And why? Because of reckless water releases by India. This is not cooperation. This is not friendship. This is sabotage. This is a crime against humanity. I will say very clearly: the world must hold India accountable. Nobody should ever weaponize water — ever. But Pakistan, you are strong, you are resilient, you will rise again. I stand with you, and I call on people all over the world: if you want to help, if you want to stand with Pakistan in this difficult time, comment below. Help Pakistan and spread this message. Let’s turn awareness.”

This video has been shared in the same context across various social media platforms.

Investigation

The news reports state that Pakistan is currently grappling with a flood crisis affecting a large section of its population. India had earlier warned Pakistan about the release of water from the dam on its side. As per a Reuters report, “An Indian government source said that India opened all the gates or doors of major dams built on its side of the rivers in the Kashmir region after heavy rains on Wednesday. (Before doing so) The neighbouring country, Pakistan, was warned about the possibility of floods. Pakistan said that Islamabad has received the warning, and after that, it has issued a flood alert on three rivers flowing into the country from India."

However, we did not find any report stating that Trump blamed India for the floods in Pakistan.

On closely examining the viral video, we noticed a clear mismatch between Trump's visuals and the audio, raising the suspicion of possible AI manipulation. To verify this, we used deepfake detection tools to confirm audio manipulation or tampering.

Deepfake Detection

We analysed the video using Buffalo University’s Deepfake-O-Meter, where multiple detectors indicated a high probability of AI manipulation. AltFreezing (2023) showed over 80%, DSP-FWA (2019)about 80%, FTCN (2021) indicated 90%, TALL (2023) confirmed over 90%, and XCLIP (2022) nearly 100%.

For further verification, the Deepfake Analysis Unit (DAU), an initiative of MCA, also analysed the video and concluded that it was most likely AI-generated.

The Hive AI Audio Classifier indicated that the audio track after the 30-second mark is likely to be AI-generated.

Similarly, the Hiya tool also confirmed the possibility of AI-created audio.

The Hive AI Deepfake Detector also confirms the possibility of AI manipulation in this video, as shown by the red line in its analysis.

Our investigation establishes that the viral video is AI-manipulated, and the account sharing it with a fake claim originates from Pakistan.

Conclusion: The viral video claiming Donald Trump blamed India for the floods in Pakistan is a deepfake. He never made any such statement.
