Greater Noida Meth Lab: The discovery of a clandestine methamphetamine (meth) manufacturing lab in Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida as part of a joint operation between the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Delhi Police Special Cell earlier this week made headlines due to a number of reasons, with one being the arrest of a Tihar Jail warden, among others.

However, the drug bust also brought to light another significant revelation. The input that led the slueths to the underground drug manufacturting facility suggested the alleged involvement of an influential Mexican crime syndicate in the meth lab's operations. The Cartel De Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) has been linked by the investigators to the now-busted facility.

METH LAB GREATER NOIDA: WHAT IS THE CJNG CARTEL?

- The CJNG cartel is a notorious Mexican criminal syndicate, primarily involved in the smuggling of drugs like meth and cocaine.

- It is based out of the Mexican state of Jalisco.

- CJNG is widely considered the second most powerful drug cartel in Mexico after the Sinaloa Cartel.

- CJNG was founded in 2009 as an offshoot of the pre-existing Milenio Cartel.

- The group is currently headed by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, aka El Mencho, one of its four original founders.

- Over the years, CJNG has diversified into several other organised crimes besides drug trafficking.

- In 2018, the US Justice Department described the group as "one of the five most dangerous transnational criminal organizations in the world".

- CJNG's activities are characterised by grotesque violence, including large-scale killings and torture.

- In April 2018, three students in Jalisco were killed and their bodies were dissolved in acid. The grotesque act of violence was blamed on CJNG. Prosecutors, at the time, said that criminals linked to CJNG had confused the victims with members of a rival gang.
