Howard Rubin sex dungeon: Former Wall Street financier Howard Rubin, arrested on federal sex-trafficking charges, allegedly converted his Manhattan penthouse into a soundproofed sex dungeon where women were coerced into commercial sex acts.
The USD 18,000-a-month penthouse at Metropolitan Tower Condominium, located at 146 West 57th Street, offers stunning views of Central Park. But, according to prosecutors, most visitors never got to enjoy the scenery. Rubin allegedly used the apartment solely for sexual encounters while living with his wife and three children in a separate Manhattan home.
Soundproof “Dungeon” Setup
Metropolitan Tower is known for its high-security standards, with attentive doormen and rigorous visitor protocols. Despite this, sources speculate that Rubin may have exploited the building’s discretion to maintain secrecy about the penthouse’s illicit use.
Court documents describe one of the bedrooms as painted red with white carpeting, soundproofed, and equipped with bondage devices and restraints. Items reportedly included a St. Andrew’s cross, beds with chains and cuffs, ropes, metal hooks, and devices capable of delivering electric shocks. Emails between Rubin and his assistant, Jennifer Powers, detailed the installation of chains and restraints, allegedly making it easier to restrain women for abuse.
Prosecutors allege that Rubin and Powers targeted vulnerable women, offering them money for sexual encounters. Many were reportedly given drugs or alcohol, such as Valium, to subdue them. Some victims signed nondisclosure agreements prior to meetings, raising red flags, according to former associates.
High-Profile Owner With Wall Street Ties
Rubin, who graduated from Lafayette College in chemical engineering and later earned an MBA from Harvard, worked as a bond trader at Salomon Brothers in the 1980s. He later joined Soros Fund Management and was featured in books like Liar’s Poker and The Big Short. Known as a prominent philanthropist, Rubin and his ex-wife, Mary Henry, donated hundreds of thousands to causes like the New York Junior League.
The couple divorced in 2021 after multiple lawsuits surfaced accusing Rubin of sexual abuse. Rubin had previously faced civil litigation in Florida and Brooklyn federal courts, where victims described him as coercive and violent.

Rubin pleaded not guilty and remains held without bail. Powers, who now resides in Texas, also pleaded not guilty and is out on a USD 850,000 bond. US Attorney Joseph Nocella stated, “As alleged, the defendants used Rubin’s wealth to mislead and recruit women to engage in commercial sex acts, where Rubin then tortured women beyond their consent, causing lasting physical and/or psychological pain.”
