US authorities have released a 911 call that they claim was an elaborate performance by an Oklahoma-based pediatrician to cover up killing of her 4-year-old daughter. Dr Neha Gupta (37) currently faces charges for death of her daughter, Aria Talathi. The infant’s body was discovered in a swimming pool at a Florida rental home in June 2025.

The "Staged" Cry for Help

The newly disclosed audio captured a panicked Gupta telling dispatchers that she woke up in the middle of the night to find her daughter at the bottom of pool. During the call, Gupta said she was unable to rescue the child because she did not know how to swim. "She's at the bottom of the pool, She's not moving", Gupta told the operator. However, Gupta hesitated when urged to find any way to pull the girl out. Investigators now believe this was a calculated move to create a picture perfect alibi for what was actually a violent crime.

The turning point in the investigation came when the medical examiner’s report narrated a different story. In a typical drowning, the lungs and stomach are filled with water; however, Aria’s autopsy revealed no water in her system. This crux of evidence led experts to conclude that the child was already dead, likely smothered, before she even entered the pool. The findings suggest the pool was used merely as a prop to stage an accident.

A Background of Turmoil

The incident took place while Gupta and Aria were visiting Miami, a trip the child's father claims he knew nothing about. At the time, the parents were embroiled in a bitter legal battle, with the father seeking full custody of Aria. Prosecutors highlighted this domestic strain and suspicious "secret" trip to Florida as potential motives.

While Gupta and her legal team maintain that death was a tragic accident, she remains in custody without bond and is scheduled to appear in court this May.
