Amid intensifying rumours about his death, allegations of torture, and widespread concern over his health, one of Imran Khan’s sisters was finally granted permission on Tuesday to meet the former Pakistan Prime Minister inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, Dawn reported. The development comes during a period of extreme political volatility, as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters prepare for a wave of demonstrations demanding clarity about Khan’s condition.

For nearly two days, social media has been awash with unverified claims that Khan was assassinated inside the high-security facility. Videos, voice notes, and anonymous posts have contributed to nationwide panic, pushing thousands of PTI supporters to mobilise outside courts, police stations, and the Adiala Jail compound.

Strict Gag Order And Tightly Controlled Access

Imran Khan’s sister, Uzma Khan, and a vetted lawyer were reportedly the only individuals allowed to see him, under a strict gag order barring them from publicly discussing his condition,News 18 reported. Authorities are attempting to tightly control the information flow amid fears that any detail about Khan’s physical or psychological state could trigger mass mobilisation similar to the May 9, 2023 unrest.

Another sister, Aleema Khan, publicly condemned what she described as unprecedented state brutality. She accused the Pakistani establishment of enabling unchecked police violence against Khan’s supporters, including women, children, and elderly citizens, claiming that officers have been granted impunity to attack peaceful demonstrators “in a manner never seen before in Pakistan.”

Tensions Escalate Around Adiala Jail

The Adiala Jail premises have become the epicentre of escalating tension since rumours about Khan’s health began circulating. Punjab authorities have imposed Section 144 in Rawalpindi to prevent mass gatherings, but PTI workers continue to arrive in large numbers, surrounding the jail and chanting for transparency and immediate access to the former premier.

Khan’s three sisters, senior PTI leaders, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi have been camping outside the facility for days, pressuring the Shehbaz Sharif government to permit family visitation. The party has also announced fresh nationwide protests, with major gatherings planned outside the Islamabad High Court and Adiala Jail on Tuesday.

Imran Khan’s sisters are expected to address the media shortly after meeting him, with journalists and supporters already gathered outside awaiting updates.
