A 30-year-old Indian student from Haryana, Vijay Kumar Sheoran, was stabbed to death in Worcester, United Kingdom, triggering a wave of grief in his hometown and urgent appeals from his family to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for help in bringing his mortal remains back to India.

He was found with serious injuries on Barbourne Road around 4:15 am on November 25. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed later that day.

Sheoran, who hailed from Jagrambass village in Charkhi Dadri district, had resigned from his job at the Central Board of Excise and Customs earlier this year to pursue higher studies at the University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol.

Five Men Arrested; Investigation Continues

In a statement issued on November 28, West Mercia Police confirmed that a murder investigation had been launched soon after officers discovered the victim with stab wounds. “We continue to appeal for information after a murder investigation was launched in Worcester,” the statement said. “Five men were arrested on suspicion of murder and are now on bail as enquiries continue.” Detective Chief Inspector Lee Holehouse, leading the probe, said officers had been working through “extensive lines of enquiry.”

“Over the last few days, my team has been gathering evidence to understand what happened on Tuesday morning and what led to a man losing his life. Officers will remain on Barbourne Road over the weekend. This is part of the investigation, and the public should not be alarmed,” he said. Holehouse urged anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem to come forward, stressing that such details could be “vital”.

Family Appeals To MEA, Jaishankar For Help

Vijay’s elder brother, Ravi Kumar, has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, seeking urgent assistance from the Indian High Commission in London for repatriation of the body.“Our family is devastated. The foreign procedures, legal formalities and documentation are too complex for us to handle,” the letter said. Ravi requested the MEA to coordinate with UK authorities and extend financial and procedural support.He has also reached out to Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.

Charkhi Dadri MLA Sunil Satpal Sangwan issued a public appeal on X, urging the Centre to intervene and ensure a swift return of the mortal remains.“Deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Vijay Kumar Sheoran… I earnestly urge the Government of India to extend every possible support to the grieving family,” he wrote, also calling for a transparent and time-bound probe.

While British police have not shared additional details, Vijay’s family fears that individuals from Haryana or Punjab may be involved. The family said Vijay last served in Kochi before leaving his government post to study abroad.The Indian High Commission in London is yet to issue a public statement on the case.
