The Indian government and Navy on Tuesday intervened to secure safe passage for a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, carrying crude oil to India. The development comes as three ships have been attacked in the Strait of Hormuz within 24 hours despite a ceasefire in place.
According to sources cited by news agency ANI, the ship, OMEGAA TRADER, had a crew of 23 onboard, comprising 15 Indians and 8 Filipinos. The ship is expected to reach Sikka, India.
According to Marine Traffic, a live tracking website, the ship was last spotted in the Gulf of Oman about 11 hours 49 minutes ago. It remained stationary after it reached the Gulf at 3:12 AM IST.
The tanker is Panama-flagged and is carrying crude oil from the Fatah Oil Field of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). OMEGA TRADER is 333 meters in overall length, and her width is 60 meters.

Three vessels attacked within 24 hours
The UK Maritime Agency had earlier reported that three tankers were attacked in the Strait within the past 24 hours, raising fresh concerns over maritime security in one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.
Those attacked include a Qatari tanker, Al Rekayyat, which was struck overnight by a drone, causing a fire in the engine room.
Qatar has accused Iran of launching the attacks on ships, as per a report by news agency Reuters. Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari called on Iran to immediately halt actions threatening regional security and maritime navigation, adding that Tehran bore full legal responsibility for the attack and any resulting damage or consequences.

Reacting to Qatar's remarks, Iran's state broadcaster IRIB, citing unnamed sources, on Tuesday reported that Al-Raqayat was targeted as it allegedly attempted to transit through the Omani route in the Strait with US Navy support while ignoring repeated Iranian warnings.
