India launched a sharp rebuttal at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, criticising both Pakistan and Switzerland for their recent comments. Indian diplomat Kshitij Tyagi delivered the remarks during the 5th meeting of the Council’s 60th session on Tuesday.

Tyagi dismissed Switzerland’s concerns over minority rights and freedom of expression in India as “surprising, shallow and ill-informed.” He urged even friendly countries to ensure that discussions at the UNHRC remain rooted in facts rather than “unsubstantiated claims and false narratives.”

Earlier, Switzerland had urged India to take “effective measures to protect minorities and uphold the rights to freedom of expression and media.” India, in its response, rejected the remarks as misinformed and out of touch with ground realities.

India’s Strong Words For Pakistan

Tyagi reserved his strongest words for Pakistan, accusing it of misusing global platforms to spread lies about India. He said Islamabad displayed a “pathological fixation” on India and thrived on repeating propaganda.

“Our measured and proportionate response to the Pahalgam attack made that sufficiently clear. We need no lessons from a terror sponsor, no sermons from a persecutor of minorities, no advice from a state that has conjured its own credibility,” he said.

Taking aim at Pakistan’s leadership, Tyagi remarked, “We are compelled once again to address provocations from a country whose own leadership recently likened it to a dump truck. Perhaps an inadvertently apt metaphor for a state that continues to deposit recycled falsehoods and stale propaganda before this distinguished council.”

Pakistan’s Misuse Of International Forums

India also condemned Pakistan’s manipulation of multilateral platforms, including its frequent reliance on the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to attack India.

“Pakistan’s systematic abuse of this forum, coupled with its routine manipulation of the OIC as its mouthpiece, has become a familiar pattern. Its pathological fixation on India appears to provide it with existential validation,” Tyagi told the Council.

Highlighting progress in the region, Tyagi said: “The unprecedented political, social, and economic progress in J&K in the past few years speaks for itself. These successes are a testament to the people’s trust in the government’s commitment to bring normalcy to a region scarred by decades of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism.”
